MN FAMILY RAISES $1M FOR ST. JUDE IN HONOR OF TEEN LOST TO BRAIN CANCER

Dylan Witschen’s dying wish was for his family to keep raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Eleven years later, they continue to keep their word.

RAMSEY, Minnesota — This year’s St. Jude Walk/Run Twin Cities 5k, will be pretty special for Megan Keller and her son, Jude Dylan Keller.

“St. Jude was the biggest blessing to my family,” Megan Keller said, “And I thought the coolest thing I could ever do was name my son Jude.”

Megan Keller’s connection to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, started long before Jude Dylan came along.

IN LATE TEEN’S MEMORY, FAMILY RAISES $1M FOR ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL

(FOX 9) – In June of 2010 Dylan Witschen, a football player at Anoka High School died of brain cancer. Before he died, he asked his family to raise money for the hospital that fought to save his life.

In August of 2008 just before Dylan’s freshman year, he was at football practice at Anoka High School. He and another player collided. Dylan said he didn’t feel right after the hit, and thought he may have had a concussion.

“We went to Mercy Hospital, they did a CT scan, they found a mass on his brain,” his mom Debbie Witschen said.

Dylan’s favorite sport was football. His speed and tenacity were second to none and #7 was a rising star for Anoka Senior High School. Unfortunately, on an August day in 2008, on the field he loved, Dylan’s life changed forever. After making a routine tackle in practice, Dylan had a seizure, the first sign that something was wrong. He was rushed to the hospital, and after testing, doctors found a very rare cancerous tumor the size of a golf ball on the right side of his brain.
